Our Programs
The SHACK is a drop-in community youth center open weekdays after school and on Friday and Saturday evenings to give students a safe place to hang out with safe people.
As a faith-based nonprofit organization, our staff and volunteer supervisors are available to talk about spiritual questions and their own faith journey, but they do not proselytize. Our goal is to give students a secure way to nurture moral, mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health.
Many students have told us that without the SHACK, they would feel less safe and be more likely to pursue drugs, alcohol, and other destructive behaviors or peer groups. Grants and support from individuals in our community make positive choices possible, impacting the lives of hundreds of students!
drop in youth center
Students in grades 5-12 are welcome at The SHACK on weekdays after school. Students in grades 6-12 are also welcome Friday and Saturday evenings from 7-10 PM. Inside The SHACK, you’ll find a home-like atmosphere with cozy couches, a pool table, arcade and video games, a movie room, board games, and a fridge and snack cupboard stocked full (small purchase price requested). An adult supervisor is always present, and they love to join a game or have a good chat.
positive relationships
Studies have shown that youth need safe places and positive people in their lives in order to develop and grow. At The SHACK, they find both. Our adult supervisors want to see youth thrive and are trained to provide security and oversight as well as emotional and spiritual support. Students at The SHACK also learn how to be positive peers through guided conflict resolution and informal socialization, enhancing safety and a sense of belonging.
disc golf course
The SHACK contributes to the physical health of youth and the community through its PDGA-certified disc golf course. Located along the east bank of the Bighorn River, this public 18-hole course promotes outdoor activity in a sport that has swept the nation. Designing, building, and maintaining the course is a true community effort, and several SHACK students give their time to the cause. Find course maps, disc rental locations, and score cards on our disc golf page.
a bigger building for bigger impact
The SHACK packs a lot of impact into its 900-square-foot building. In this last programming year alone, we’ve had 114 first time visits, representing 40% of all students in grades 5-12. The need for a safe space for youth exists, but demand is fast outstripping what we can provide. We have purchased and are renovating a 12,000-square-foot building at 33 North 5th Street in Greybull that will vastly expand our program reach and options. More SHACK means more IMPACT!

Get Involved
Youth grow here, and that makes our community stronger. We regularly hear from SHACK students how The SHACK has helped them navigate social and academic pressures, causing them to become less anxious, more kind, more confident, and more prepared for life after high school.
YOU can be part of that growth. You can be part of the IMPACT of The SHACK!

give
The SHACK is funded with grants and donations from individuals, churches, and businesses. From gifts of supplies or services to joining our monthly Team 180 donors, every contribution makes a big difference in the lives of Bighorn Basin youth.
pray
It isn’t easy to be a middle or high school student, even in a small town like Greybull. Our youth need your prayers as they face daily pressures and challenges. The SHACK needs your prayers as we strive to share the love of Jesus and keep going strong.
volunteer
Can you give a high five? We need you. Can you swing a hammer? We need you. Can you make sound business decisions? We need you. Volunteers are crucial to every aspect of The SHACK, and we’d love to talk with you about how to get involved.
